To be a yogi is to be courageous. I always considered myself a courageous being. At times, this quality got me into a lot of trouble. I love thrill and adventure, I am never afraid to love, rarely afraid to fall, and always willing to take the path less traveled while looking fear in the face.
However, yoga taught me the courage to also look inside and embrace silence and stillness; all the things that are not so “thrilling," and most importantly myself. Yoga taught, and is still teaching me to be more balanced within my courage and to know when boundaries are necessary to remain safe, to move and grow with more ease, and to keep good company within my life.
I bravely stepped out on my own and opened Sundance Yoga Studio (voted best studio in 2001) in Houston, Texas back in 1999 when there were not so many of us in Texas. At the time it was a gamble for me, but I had a deep love for something that I felt compelled to share with others.
What a great “path less traveled” this became!
My formal path began in 1996 with the lovely, Raye Lynn Rath, one of the first senior teachers of Anusara Yoga, receiving my 200 hr Teacher Certification from her in 1998. Being so lucky to live in the same hometown as John Friend (founder of Anusara Yoga), I was introduced early to this system, in 1999. Receiving the majority of my hours with Raye Lynn, John Friend and Mary Romeu (also one of the first senior teachers of Anusara), as well as, the infectious and lovable, Douglas Brooks, studying the Tantric Philosophies. John was paramount in my training, however Mary to this day, I feel as my most influential teacher. She brought me the feminine, softer quality, incorporated with strength that I needed most in my teaching, and in my own personal practice. I offer my deepest gratitude to the students, to Mary and to the rest of the Anusara community that have helped me along this path of growth and knowledge.
By 2003, I had received well over 500 hours of intermediate and advanced training, all within the realms of some of the best teachers within Anusara and had already taught thousands of hours of yoga. I then sold my studio and took a year off for study, reflection, personal practice and travel. I believe this time to have been one of the most important steps in my evolution as a teacher. From 2005-2009 I worked as the Director/Head Yoga Instructor/Thai Yoga Massage Therapist at MindBody studio, Mint Fitness, in DC until moving to Switzerland in 2009. I have Directed/Co-Directed (5) 200 hr Teacher Training Certifying courses in both Texas and Switzerland.
Anusara is at the root of my knowledge and style. However, I have expanded my knowledge and passion beyond Anusara and found my own creative path. I believe my gift in teaching has developed into one that explores creative ways for all types of students to move from the Outside-In and discover how the body itself can connect us deeper into a spiritual path of Love. Eventually developing into ALIGNINTUIT, a unique system founded during Covid and as anything creative, will always be expanding. Fostered from Anusara, but blossomed from personal practice and exploration and from the thousands of classes I have taught over the years with a deep love to help others have their own self discoveries. I will forever be a student of yoga, both on and off the mat. I find it a journey that never ends, only pulsates with new and diverse explorations. My hope is to help others to know their own path more clearly, to be courageous on the journey of self discovery and to have fun doing it!
